Black Tip Reef Shark
Carcharhinus Sharks should only be added to very large aquariums with a fine sand bed preferably zoos or public aquariums. Black Tip Reef Sharks will grow to be up to 5' in length. Careful thought and consideration will need to be done before adding to home aquariums. Rockwork with plenty of caves, cracks and crevices should be provided for resting. Sharks lack airbladders instead they have two lobed liver that maintains their buoyancy. Sharks have a keen sense of smell and eyesight as well as renewable teeth. The are sensitive to both electric impulses and copper maintain aquarium with neither present. Sharks require a diet rich in meaty based foods.
Blacktip Reef Shark, is a species of requiem shark found in the tropical Indo-Pacific region. Commonly seen however not recommended for the home aquarium due to its large size. The Blacktip Reef Shark has a slender, streamlined body with a dark gray to brownish-gray coloration on the dorsal (upper) side and a lighter gray to white coloration on the ventral (lower) side. As its name suggests, it has prominent black tips on its dorsal and pectoral fins. Juvenile Blacktip Reef Sharks have a slightly different coloration than adults, with a more pronounced black tip on their dorsal fin and a white stripe along their sides. There is no noticeable difference in coloration between males and females. Blacktip Reef Sharks can grow up to 5 feet in length, but are typically smaller in captivity.
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 1000 gallons or larger for this species.
